Send Sand Samples – Become Part of My Global Sand Collection

Have you ever dreamed of being part of an extraordinary project? Here’s your chance: Help me expand one of the largest sand collections in the world! Every sand sample brings us closer to the geological and cultural diversity of our planet. With your help, this collection will become even more unique and fascinating. Every contribution counts and makes a difference.

How You Can Support Me

It's quite simple: bring me sand from your travels or collect some from your surroundings. Whether the sand is from a beach, a river, a lake, or a mountain – each sample tells its own story and enriches my collection. Sand samples from exotic places, such as small islands or unusual landscapes, are especially exciting. The more unique the location, the more exciting the collection becomes!

How to Label Your Sand Sample for My Collection

To best integrate your sand sample into my collection and database, accurate labeling is essential. The more information you provide, the better I can determine the location and document it precisely. These details also help me to find the exact coordinates (latitude/longitude) of the site.

Please include the following details with your sand sample, if available:

Sand Sample No. 7
Country Germany
State/Region Baden-Württemberg
City Heidelberg
Location (River, Lake, Desert, ...) Neckar River
Additional Information Collected under the "Old Bridge"
Coordinates (if available) 49.4151 North, 8.7096 East
Collector's Name Daniel Helber
Collection Date August 2024

You can also find the coordinates of your location using the online tool on my website with Google Maps --> Coordinate Search.

Tips for the Quantity and Safe Packaging of Your Sand Sample

The ideal amount for a sand sample is about 30 ml (which is equivalent to the contents of a Kodak film canister). If you have more sand, I’m happy to accept it! The safest way to send sand is in a well-sealed zip-lock bag.

Please pack the sample carefully in a padded envelope or a small box to ensure it survives shipping undamaged. For more detailed packaging instructions, feel free to check the "Packing Workshop" on my website.
